When the Faroe Islands-based fishing company JFK set out to maximize the value of their onboard catch, they turned to Fjell Technology Group for a solution that could deliver premium fishmeal and fish oil—right at sea.

In Partnership with close collaborators, Fjell Technology Group has successfully delivered a complete fishmeal and fish oil processing plant onboard JFK’s vessel Gadus, with a capacity of 80 tons per day (TPD). This compact, high-performance system transforms fish by-products into valuable resources, directly onboard the vessel—saving time, reducing waste, and increasing profitability.

Space onboard marine vessels is limited. Fjell’s engineering team leveraged strong experience in design and delivery of compact process plants. The resulting design that fit into tight space is ideal not only for vessels like Gadus, but also for smaller land-based facilities.

Despite its compact footprint, the plant includes all core components of a full-scale processing line such as Grinder, Boiler, Press, Decanter/Tricanter, Dryer, and Silo and bagging system.

Each part is fully integrated and automated, including CIP (Clean-in-Place) systems for hygiene and efficiency. The result is a streamlined operation with minimal manual intervention.

The plant is fully compliant with all relevant regulations, and the fishmeal produced is approved for human-grade quality, opening up new market opportunities for JFK.
