Sustainable Resource Recovery in Stavanger
IVAR IKS (Interkommunalt Vann, Avløp, Renovasjon, Inter Kommunalt Selskap) and specifically IVAR SNJ (Sentralrenseanlegg Nord-Jæren) is a Norwegian inter-municipal company responsible for water, wastewater, and recycling services for more than 300,000 residents in the Stavanger region. Their mission is not only to clean wastewater and protect marine life, but also to maximize the reuse and recycling of resources in a sustainable, circular way.
At IVAR's advanced facilities, organic waste from wastewater is collected and combined with other organic materials such as grease, food waste, septic sludge, and fish sludge. This mixture undergoes a process where biogas is first produced, followed by dewatering and full-drying (>92% DM) of the remaining sludge.
To achieve optimal results, IVAR uses two state-of-the-art sludge dryers supplied by Fjell Technology Group. These dryers employ indirect drying using steam as the heat medium, generated by a dedicated boiler plant that also provides energy for heating of buildings. Biogas produced on-site can be utilized to fuel these processes, ensuring a high level of energy efficiency.
The drying process
- hygienizes the digestate, making it storage stabile and safe for further use
- transforms the digestate into a valuable resource for fertilizer production.
IVAR creates value from what was once considered waste (food residues and sewage), exemplifying how Fjell Technology Group’s technology & solutions helps customers realize the full potential of their resources and our contribution to sustainability.
Fjell Technology Group is a leading supplier of process equipment and technology solutions for utilisation of rest raw materials. Reach out and let us help navigate your value circle.
