Next generation wastewater treatment upgrade
Fjell Technology Group has supported Salten Smolt with the design and delivery of a next-generation wastewater treatment upgrade.
Salten Smolt’s wastewater treatment system originally consisted of:
- Buffer tank
- Electroflocculators
- Reaction time tank
- DAF (Dissolved Air Flotation) unit for sludge thickening
- Decanter for sludge dewatering
- Reject water recycling system
- Sludge container
While functional, this setup faced significant operational challenges that impacted environmental performance and resulted in increased costs. Key improvements that Fjell Technology Group has delivered include:
- Skira Polymer Performance System (PPS) combined with a pipe flocculator before thickening.
- Homogenization and feed control system of thickened sludge.
- Diconnecting the electroflocculators and removal of mixing tank upstream DAF. The electroflocculants may be used in the future as an initial, coagulant step upstream the polymer system.
This innovative solution enabled:
- Optimized flocculation for better particle aggregation.
- Improved DAF efficiency, ensuring cleaner water discharge.
- Consistent sludge production by decanter, reducing solids released to the sea.
Salten Smolt now operates a robust, cost-effective, and environmentally friendly wastewater treatment process—helping them maintain their reputation for quality and sustainability.
